Roulette is like Blackjack a table game. It is however not played with cards. On this page you can find information about how to play roulette in an online casino, different types of bets, the roulette wheel and the roulette table.

Layout of the roulette table

The game of roulette is build up out of two sections, there is the layout on the table and the roulette wheel at the top of the table. The roulette wheel has a part inside that can spin. That part contains several pockets, either 37 or 38, with numbers on it. These numbers can also be found at the layout on the table. The numbers are either colored red or black, except for the zero, this last one is always colored green. The layout will show you all possible bets that you can make. These bets are divided in the inside and the outside bets which are discussed below. There is actually a third part of the game but it belongs to the wheel, this is the ball. A small ball is spun inside the roulette wheel, the pocket where the ball will land is the winning number.;-p:

Different Bets at Roulette

The inside bets are the bets on the separate numbers and are as follows:

Straight; a straight is abet on just one single number.
Split; a split is a bet on two numbers that are next to each other on the layout, this can be vertical or horizontal.
Street; this is a bet on three numbers on a horizontal row.
Corner; this bet is also called a square and is a bet on 4 numbers which together form a square on the layout.
Double street; this is when you bet on two streets at the same time, so two horizontal rows of each three numbers.
Trio; this is a bet on three numbers at the same time.

The outside bets are bets that concern groups of numbers as well as colors etc.

Red or Black; you can either bet on all the red numbers or an all the black numbers.
Even or Odd; you can choose to bet on all even numbers or all odd numbers.
High or Low; the high numbers are the numbers 18-36 and the low numbers are the numbers 1-17.
Column; this is a bet on an entire column of 12 numbers at once, in total there are three columns.
Dozen; this is a bet on each of the three groups of twelve numbers: 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36

How to play online roulette

It might look a bit confusing when you look at the roulette table but in fact it is very easy to understand. Once you know a little about the different bets it is easy to play. In an online casino you will see the roulette table at your screen. Most of the times you will find the chips and playing buttons on the bottom of your screen. You start with placing a bet by selecting the chip amount you want to play with. With your mouse you can place the chip any where on the layout at the bet option you want. You can place multiple bets. After that you can click the spin button and the wheel will start spinning with the ball in the opposite direction. The pocket in which the ball will land is the winning number. If your bet or one of your bets matches the winning number you will be paid out accordingly. If your bet does not correspond with the winning number you will loose. After that the game will start over again. You can keep the same bet(s) but you can also change your bet(s).

Different types of roulette

Online casino might offer you many types of roulette but these are all related somehow to one of the three main types.

European Roulette; this is together with American roulette the most played type of roulette in an online casino. European roulette is also called single zero roulette as the game only has one zero. The numbers on the wheel are placed in a random order.
American Roulette; American roulette has next to the zero zero also a double zero, 00. This means that there is one pocket extra so a total of 38 pockets on the wheel. The numbers on the wheel are also placed in a specific order to gain a kind of mathematical balance between the red and black, the high and low and the even and odd numbers.
French Roulette; French roulette has an extra betting field called Announced bets or call bets. Sometimes you will also see this extra field at European roulette but originally it belongs to French roulette.
